Wyverns are always found within specific terrain structures known as nests. These formations appear in 5 different types and serve as the exclusive spawn locations for wyverns. While their appearance varies by biome, all nests include a distinct arch structure—making them the primary visual indicators for players seeking dragons. Each nest structure also generates with a chest, and the quality of its loot scales with the size variant of the wyvern that spawned.

Nests are the only place wyverns spawn. If you're hunting a wyvern, find a nest.

How Do I Find a Specific Type of Wyvern?

In short—you don’t. Tracking down a wyvern is already a major challenge, with spawn rates set deliberately low. And even then, the system draws from multiple wyvern pools, meaning only one type is selected to appear per structure.

Neutral biomes (e.g., Forest, Plains, Jungle) use the random_wyvern pool: 7 eligible types, each with an equal ~14.29% chance to spawn.
Fire Wyvern is included in both native and random pools, so it appears in Badlands (native) and neutral biomes (random).
Earth and Ice Wyverns are excluded from randomization and only appear in their native biomes.
Mushroom Fields follow the same random logic as neutral biomes—Earth and Ice are excluded. However, due to the naturally low mob & structure density in these areas, Wyvern encounter rate dramatically increases.
