Wyverns are among the most formidable aerial predators in RLCraft, known for their aggressive behavior, swift flight, and devastating attacks. Yet beneath their feral exterior lies the potential for a loyal companion…if you’re brave enough to tame one.

But first, taming begins with combat. You must engage the Wyvern in battle and whittle down its health until it enters a “knockdown” state. The Wyvern will collapse to the ground, incapacitated and vulnerable. It’s not dead—yet.

Once the Wyvern is knocked down, interacting with it will open a special menu offering two choices. You may choose to slay the Wyvern, which will kill it permanently and cause it vanish from the world and drop its loot.

Or your chose the second option. If you choose to spare the Wyvern, it will rise again—not as an enemy, but as a tamed creature bound to you. From this moment forward, the Wyvern is yours to command, and congratulations are in order: you’ve just earned one of the most versatile mounts in the game.

Riding and Flight Mechanics

To ride your newly tamed Wyvern, you’ll first need to equip it with a saddle. Hold the saddle in your hand and interact with the Wyvern to attach it. Once saddled, interact again to mount up. Dismounting is simple—just crouch to hop off. Flight is controlled by holding the jump button, which causes the Wyvern to ascend. Releasing jump will cause you to slowly float back down. It’s important to note that Wyverns do not currently have a hover feature, so maintaining altitude requires constant input.

Equipping Armor

Your Wyvern can be outfitted with armor to boost its survivability, and there are four tiers available: Iron, Gold, Diamond, and Netherite. These armor sets are not found in the wild and must be purchased from a Dragon Hunter NPC. To acquire a set, you’ll need a block of the desired metal and a quantity of Gold Coins. Once you’ve made the trade, simply hold the armor and interact with your Wyvern to equip it.

Healing and Sustenance

While wearing armor helps, wyverns are not invincible and keeping them healthy is essential for long-term survival. Fortunately, they possess a passive regeneration mechanic: whenever they deal damage to enemies, they slowly regain health. This “life-leech” effect makes them self-sustaining in combat. Outside of battle, you can also feed your Wyvern any type of consumable meat to restore its health manually. Whether it’s raw beef, cooked pork, or Skunk Meat, the Wyvern isn’t picky—just keep its belly full and its health bar topped off.
